Dominica: Trafalgar Falls

One of our favorite reasons to stay in Trafalgar Village on Dominica is because you can walk to so many natural hot water springs. The most natural feeling hot spring is the Trafalgar Falls because you are really sitting in a hot river. They call the twin falls of Trafalgar "Mother Falls" and "Father Falls", one is hot and one is cold, so when you get too hot you can cool off…. it's truly paradise!

Our Wedding

Recently I married the man of my dreams!!!

Eric and I ran away to Dominica to elope and celebrate our honeymoon. It might seem strange or maybe it's totally normal that after attending a thousand weddings I wanted something special and simple for my own wedding.
What we ended up doing was picking one of our favorite waterfalls, Middleham Falls, to exchange our wedding vows, rings, and have our first kiss. We had a small hike to get to the waterfall and went early so that we would have the spot to ourselves. Later we made more wedding photos around Dominica to show off the beauty of the island.

We made our own wedding photos and video by setting up a camera and a GoPro on a tripod.

Dominica Guide: Middleham Falls

Middleham Falls is one of the tallest waterfalls on Dominica. The trail entrance to Middleham Falls is in Laudat and has a well-marked sign that makes it easy to find. I recommend picking up a copy of Bradt’s Travel Guide of Dominica by Paul Crask, this is a fantastic guide with clear directions and tips.

The Middleham Falls hike takes about an hour each way, has a well-maintained path with steps and bridges, and is an enjoyable hike through the rainforest. I saw an Agouti (looks like a Guinea Pig) for the first time, some of the larges Chataignier Trees I’ve ever seen, and had a chance to break my FiveFinger hiking shoes in on this trail. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Dominica.

Canyoning Adventure on Dominica

Extreme Dominica will be the highlight of your Caribbean vacation. I’ll admit that this was an adventure that I had to be talked into because rappelling down a canyon isn’t something that I would search out to do on my own. Extreme Dominica’s canyoning tour is, without a doubted, an amazing adventure and the most exciting part of my vacation on Dominica.

Rappelling into the deep gorges of volcanic bedrock canyons will be the only way you will be able to see these amazing formations that the owner of Extreme Dominica, Richard Metawi, calls “cathedral-looking.” Floating in a crystal clear pool of water at the bottom of a canyon, I cannot think of a better way to describe how amazing it truly is.

Extreme Dominica will outfit you in a full wet suit, helmet, harness, life jacket, and provide a training lesson, this makes such a big difference when rappelling down a waterfall for the first time. I can’t wait to go back to Dominica and do it again.
