So, what do you have planned for the weekend?
I’m starting my weekend this afternoon with a moment of doing nothing on Francis Beach. Then gathering up all my energy for the month of May where I will be photographing a lot of weddings.
So, Sage Island most likely will be a little neglected and less day-dreamy over the next couple of weeks. Sorry kids.

Have you ever thought of a career change?
What would you be doing if you weren’t a ________? (fill in the blank)
I often wonder what I would do if I didn’t photograph weddings on St John.
The skies the limit really, I was once an international flight attendant, seems like a lifetime ago.

Have a great weekend!!!

Do you already have your mother’s day gift picked out?
Today I was just browsing through “Nest” looking for ideas on what to get my mom when I ended up purchasing this delicious bath bar for myself. Sorry mom.
My new luxury bath soap is intoxicating with the beautiful smell of sweet port pear. I also love its oversized shape.

Maybe I should get my mom a gift basket of all these lovely soaps from Kalastyle?!

You know you live in the middle of nowhere when you get excited that the next island over is now selling “Essie” nail polish. Not to even mention the fact that my #1 place for these kinds of purchases is the BIG KMART. I’m such a classy girl!

Spanish Virgin Islands
This is a wish that is in the works of coming true.
Eric and I are planning a weekend getaway to Vieques in June. Vieques is located east of Puerto Rico and one on the Spanish Virgin Islands.

Vieques is a small little island, about 134 square miles, so we thought it would be easy to pick a place to stay. Well, the more research we did, the more options we realized we had for accommodations on Vieques. There is one major and well-known hotel on the island, The W, a few smaller hotels, a good number of B and B’s, and an endless number of private homes (also known as villas) with prices ranging from $80 to $450 a night.

There is nothing tastier than a tomato grown in your own garden. For whatever reason the tomatoes from the market never taste the same. The last couple of weeks Eric and I have been enjoying the most amazing tomatoes with our dinner. I planted “jet star hybrid” and they seem to be the perfect size. I do have to fight the thrush birds to get them; if I don’t pick the tomatoes before they turn red the birds will eat them.

For once I really had the weekend off and need to get back to work on a Monday.
How was your weekend?
Eric's father came over to hang out and we had a great time exploring the east side of St John, snorkeling, bonfire, and relaxing .... photos coming soon.

Hope you have a great week;
here's a small list to spice tings up or just distract you:

For those of you that read the ingredient labels do you know what Rebiana from the stevia plant is? 100% natural and calorie free, it almost sounds good for you.

“How to Fake Abs for the Summer” Do people really do this stuff?

Essie’s “Mezmerised” nail polish is the perfect blue.

DPNR says to not swim in Hart Bay on St John.

This weeks  5 star movie is "ALAMAR." A father and son adventure in a tiny fishing village, living in a house built on stilts, with gorgeous footage of the Mexican Caribbean Ocean.

If I was in NYC I'd go and check out Laurel Nakadate's latest photos and videos at PS1: the show is called Only the Lonely.

I {heart} John Robshaw's Textile patterns and pillows.

Do you have anything romantic planned this weekend?
I can’t think of anything more lovely than sitting with Eric on a beach and watching the sunset with a glass of champagne in my hand. What can I say, I really love the simple things.

I also can’t stop myself from wondering if I’m going to see the “green flash.” Have you ever seen the “green flash?” I’m dieing to see it. The first time I ever heard of it was when it was mentioned in “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Come to find out that it really does occur and that people have photographs to prove this amazing phenomenon at sunset as well as sunrise.
Do you remember in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” what they say the green flash signals?

This is a fun little clip of the making of the underwater scene in “At Worlds End.”

Every Day is Earth Day

We’ve been celebrating Earth Day since 1970; I can’t help but wonder if the conversation has changed. I’m sure that planting a tree today is nice for the environment, but what are you going to do tomorrow? How about making a few small simple lifestyle adjustments to live a greener lifestyle?
Here are 10 simple ways to live a greener lifestyle and be more conscious of the effects each individual has on the environment:

1.    Focus on reducing your energy and water consumption.
Science Daily has an amazing list of 12 steps that are really easy to fallow, take a look HERE.
2.    Recycle.
3.    Start a compost to reduce the amount of trash your house produces.
4.    Don’t buy bottled water
5.    Buy locally grown foods.
6.    Buy organic foods and clothing.
7.    Help keep the air in your home clean by having houseplants; a houseplant naturally cleans the air.
8.    Bring your own reusable shopping bags to the market.
9.    Do NOT use the disposable plastic bags at the market. This is so simple!!!
10.  Carpooling and having your car in good working condition.

Do What You’ve Got To Do Horoscope by Rob Brezsney’s Free Will Astrology.

I’m not sure if I can relate to my horoscope this week, I don’t feel as though I’ve hit a dead end. Take a look at your weekly horoscope this week, link here.

I do like the second part of my horoscope though:
“We need fantasy to augment the merely factual perspective. We require poetic truths to keep the rational approach honest.

Without the play of the imagination, in fact, our understanding of the world is impoverished and distorted.”
(P.S. Nietzsche said: "We have art in order not to perish of truth.")

I’m trying out something new on Sage Island, Wish I Was Wednesday, a little daydream to help you through the week. I think dreaming is healthy for the imagination and motivation. So, dream BIG, your dreams might just come true.

Most of my dreams have to do with traveling and “I wish I was here….”
Croatia is on my travel list.
The photographs I’ve seen of it are just breathtaking and it is apart of the Mediterranean (I secretly think I will live there one day.) Like St John, Croatia is famous for its many national parks (technically St John only has one) and it’s incredible coastline. If I wasn’t sailing along the cost of Croatia I think I’d be on a bike in the capital. Take a look at how amazing this tour would be on a bike in Zagreb, Croatia: Wish I Was Here!

Is now the proud owner of two orchid plants. My birthday orchid is still growing strong and has new leaves. I found this encouraging to get another orchid plant and went to visit Duncan at The Orchid Shop located on St Thomas in Tillitt Gardens. He had a beautiful “Pacific Sunspots” that was ready to bloom. Isn’t she gorgeous?!

Photos of my beautiful birthday orchid HERE.

I’m starting something new this week on Sage Island + Magic Mondays!
Magic Mondays will consist of all those little things that make my week a little more wonderful, that inspire me, put a smile on my face, makes ya think, my latest obsessions, movie recommendation, the song that keeps playing in my head, and all the other stuff.
I hope you like it and it turns you on to something new.

♥ Have a great week  ♥

This weeks list of great stuff:

I met Jocelyn Lee when I was in collage and it is amazing to see what she's been photographing over the last 10 years. She now has a book.

There is nothing like being shaken a wake by an earthquake; the little ones are fun.

An amazing book by John Irving called A Prayer for Owen Meany. You will fall in love with this character.

Movie: 127 Hours. For the adventurer, an amazing story, and well filmed. I did have to cover my eyes at one point!

Wishing you all a happy weekend, hope you discover something new and wonderful this weekend.

“People think a soul mate is your perfect fit, and that’s what everyone wants. But a true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that is holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life.

A true soul mate is probably the most important person you’ll ever meet, because they tear down your walls and smack you awake. But to live with a soul mate forever? Nah. Too painful. Soul mates, they come into your life just to reveal another layer of yourself to you, and then leave.

A soul mates purpose is to shake you up, tear apart your ego a little bit, show you your obstacles and addictions, break your heart open so new light can get in, make you so desperate and out of control that you have to transform your life, then introduce you to your spiritual master…”

Back in the day when I was living in Portland Maine, I would read Rob Brezsny’s Free Will Astrology every week in the local free newspaper. Thought I'd look him up and he's online so I can still read his horoscopes. Mine couldn't be more right-on!

Aquarius Horoscope for the week of April 14, 2011.

"Once bread becomes toast, it can never become bread again." Today I saw that piece of wisdom scrawled on the wall of a cafe's restroom. I immediately thought of you. Metaphorically speaking, you're thinking about dropping some slices in the toaster, even though you're not actually ready to eat yet. If it were up to me, you would wait a while before transforming the bread into toast -- until your hunger got ratcheted up to a higher level. The problem is, if you make the toast now, it'll be unappetizing by the time your appetite reaches its optimum levels. That's why I suggest: Put the bread back in the bag. For the moment, refrain from toasting.

You should look your sign up and see what Mr. Brezsny has to say about your week, click HERE.

Last week I came across a perfume called Maine on Joanna Goddard’s blog and couldn’t help myself.
Have you ever heard of MCMC Fragrances? It’s a small perfume company based in Brooklyn New York that is dedicated to creating original, natural, modern, and aromatherapy perfumes.

Originally I was going to order their Maine perfume so that I could smell like my home state, but then I saw that they offer a sample kit for $18. The MCMC Fragrances sample kit includes 6 different perfumes: Maine, Maui, Noble, Hunter, Kept, and Garden.
My order arrived in record time on St John and I’m absolutely a big fan of MCMC Fragrances’. Don’t you wish you could scratch and sniff these photos?

MCMC is offering the perfect mothers day gift special: personalized perfume label with your mom’s name on it!

They have a great website, take a look HERE.

Have you ever been good at something and then one day no matter what you did you where no longer good it? When I moved to St John all my herbs died and I couldn’t get them started again, I thought the seeds where bad, so I planted a lot to make up for the fact that I had failed a few times. I’ve never claimed to have a “green thumb,” there are a few things that I can keep alive, while other plants just wither-up and die if I touch them. Basil has always been an easy plant for me to grow.

If you know me then you know I don’t like to cook but I do like to grow fresh herbs and veggies to eat.

My point is that I’ve over compensated and have more basil then two people can eat. Eric suggested that I start a new business selling basil and call it “Sage’s Basil.” My thought was pesto! Again, if you know me, you know that I could eat pasta every day and be happy, really!

So like any un-chef I went to allrecipes.com and found a pesto recipe I could butcher. I added a lot more garlic, basil, pine nuts, and of course my “magic bullet” thought it was too thick, so instead of more olive oil I added a bit of water so it could turn. Long story, but it is amazing! I wish you could taste it or that I didn’t eat all of it so at least I had a photo to share ;)

Francis Bay Walking Trail

I love walking; it helps clear my head and relaxes me. When I was young my mother and I would always go for a long walk and talk about life on the old railroad bed in front of our house. These days my walks have been along the Francis Bay Trail.

The Francis Bay Trail on St John is a fabulous little walk that only takes about 15 minutes and is less than half a mile. My favorite section of the walk is the boardwalk that starts at Francis Bay Beach Parking lot and is right in front of the salt pond. The National Park put the boardwalk in to make the slat pond wheel chair accessible. The salt pond is an amazing little spot for bird watching. The National Park is offering a guided tour  by a Park Ranger this Friday. The event is called “Discover Bird Watching” and will be looking at the different species of birds found in the dry tropical forest, salt pond, and along the ocean shoreline. Please call the National Park Office for details at 340 776 6201.

The Francis Bay Trail also has some great ruins that are easy to access, click HERE to see photos of the Francis Bay Ruins.
