When’s the last time you played hooky?
The other afternoon Eric and I decided the day was too beautiful to not enjoy it by being outside. So, we left a ton of office work to go to the beach. It felt so great to blow-off the afternoon and go for a swim on a hot Caribbean summer day. The ocean was beyond refreshing and I still don’t regret it for a second. I highly recommend playing hooky one of these summer days.

Francis Bay Walking Trail

I love walking; it helps clear my head and relaxes me. When I was young my mother and I would always go for a long walk and talk about life on the old railroad bed in front of our house. These days my walks have been along the Francis Bay Trail.

The Francis Bay Trail on St John is a fabulous little walk that only takes about 15 minutes and is less than half a mile. My favorite section of the walk is the boardwalk that starts at Francis Bay Beach Parking lot and is right in front of the salt pond. The National Park put the boardwalk in to make the slat pond wheel chair accessible. The salt pond is an amazing little spot for bird watching. The National Park is offering a guided tour  by a Park Ranger this Friday. The event is called “Discover Bird Watching” and will be looking at the different species of birds found in the dry tropical forest, salt pond, and along the ocean shoreline. Please call the National Park Office for details at 340 776 6201.

The Francis Bay Trail also has some great ruins that are easy to access, click HERE to see photos of the Francis Bay Ruins.

I wish I could stop being amazed at how fast time passes by.
Here are a few things that made my week extra special and made me smile.

1. Eugene Atget's photograph of Paris in the early 1900's always inspire me.

2. Rose Murphy's beautiful music from the 1940's and 50's because she sounds like a bird.

3. Time Machine because in consumed 3 days of my time re-organizing HD space:( this week.

4. My new cup/bowl for tea by Cote Table that I picked up at Nest, is the perfect oversized cup.

5. Considering a white water rafting trip with OARS in California this fall.

6. The movie "Nacho Libre", how could you not be inspire by this movie!

7. I'm a huge fan of the Diane Rehm Show and she had the most amazing interview with Dr. Dame Daphne Sheldrick, she is the expert on raising orphaned elephants in the new movie called "Born to Be Wild." This interview made my mouth drop open and kept me sitting in my car in the parking lot because I couldn't miss a word of what she had to say. I can't wait to see the movie!

The above photo was made on Francis Bay Beach, don't you love it?
I didn't know a boat could be so cute!

Latest Obsessions

It’s the little things in life that make the day to day more exciting and enjoyable. Sometimes it’s hard to start something new, change your routine, or simply approach the everyday from a new angle. But making one little change within the routine of day to day can make things feel fresh.

Here are a few new discoveries or rediscoveries that have made my week better:

1. Walking to the beach in the morning to drink a hot cup of tea.
2. Listening to The Roots album, “How I got Over”.
4. Snacking on frozen strawberries.
5. Finding a new CPA called Dolly (thanks to my facebook friends.)
6. Dreaming about the possibility of photographing a wedding on a yacht in the Grenadines.
7. My nail polish of choice this week is Essie’s “Nice is Nice”.
8. Favorite movie of the week is “Happy Tears”.

The photographs above are of Francis Bay Beach on St John. I’m lucky enough to live walking distance to this amazing piece of paradise.

We had a great Thanksgiving weekend, our first at Sweet Bottom (the nickname of our beach cottage.) Eric's sister, Jen, flew down from Maryland and his father, Rick, came over from St. Thomas on Thursday to start the cooking and festivities while Eric was working on a day charter to Virgin Gorda. We put the turkey in the oven and walked down to Francis Beach for a refreshing swim. Dinner was amazing, we're almost out of turkey.

The next day we hiked to Leinster Bay and snorkeled around  Waterlemon Cay and relaxed around the house. On Saturday we all took the ferry over to St. Thomas to spend the night at Eric's family home on Mountain Top. Rick recently removed the living room furniture and put a ping pong table in and we barbecued salmon and veggies, had cocktails and played ping pong. After an evening of dining and playing we settled into the hot tub on the porch with the most amazing views of St. John and the British Virgin Islands. I truly had such a great turkey day weekend spending it with Eric's family, they made me feel right at home.

What a wonderful weekend at home on St. John, beautiful weather and great friends. Eric's father came over from St. Thomas and we all set off in the Boston Whaler to find lobsters, snorkel, and enjoy the sunshine along the North Shore of St. John.

Started at our beach Francis Bay.

Snorkeled at Denis Beach.

Cinnamon Beach.

Rooster hunting around the house, so we can sleep in past 4 a.m.
