Annaberg Historica Trail

There’s more to St. John then our world famous beaches. The Virgin Islands National Park Service has a self-guided tour through Annaberg Sugar Mill Ruins, where you can learn a little about the history and culture of the island. The plantation thrived for 150 years in the 18th – 19th century. The Annaberg Ruins once produced sugar, molasses, and rum.

The ruins are still in great condition and fun to explore. At the Annaberg Sugar Mill Ruins you will see a spectacular view of across the narrows, the sugar factory, the windmill, a horsemill, a dungeon, a rum still, a cistern, and more.

The park offers Annaberg Cultural Demonstrations that include basket weaving, baking, folk life and agricultural techniques. For details please contact the Virgin Islands National Park at 340 776 8811.

Sea Turtle Envy

The biggest sea turtle I’ve ever seen lives in Francis Bay.
Did you know that a sea turtle could live to be over 100 years old? There are even turtles in the Galapagos Islands that have lived for more then 200 years.




The turtle on St John in Francis Bay is so big that it has a couple of remoras living on him.

Denis Bay Beach

I spent the afternoon relaxing and watching the clouds float by on Denis Beach today.
Denis Beach is one of my favorite spots to sunbath and snorkel on St. John.
I really enjoy Denis Beach because it’s quiet, secluded, and has the feeling of being a “private” beach, even though all of the beaches in the US Virgin Islands are public. I also really enjoy the little hike that you have to take to get to the beach.
Denis Beach is located on the North Shore Road within the Virgin Islands National Park. The trail that leads down to the beach is unmarked, but easy to find at start of the Peace Hill Trail.

Birthday Weekend!!!

Weekend plans?
This is my birthday weekend and I actually have some exciting plans.
Going to spend the morning out sailing on Kekoa with Eric, see daydreams do come true. Maybe spend the afternoon sitting on the porch at Sweet Bottom drinking a yummy bottle of Veuve, then make our way into Cruz Bay to watch the sunset, and dinner at La Tapa with Eric and Rick. Did I mention that I’m excited?!
