I hope it's not too late to post photos from Christmas.
This year Eric and I went to visit my family in Maine to celebrate Christmas. It was the first time I had a white Christmas since (this trip here) and it was a holiday celebration to remember!!!

We arrived really late in the evening (delays due to weather) and this was what it looked like the first day we woke up!

It snowed the first day we where in Maine, which made it a white Christmas! Eric and I made a snowman and played outside like kids... then sat next to the fireplace to warm up.
My grandfather came up from NJ to spend the holiday with us, which made it extra special.

My mom thought it would be nice if we all did a puzzle together. I became obsessed over it until it was complete and found that I really like doing puzzles (thanks mom).

We ate so much amazing  food during the Christmas holiday! My mother is the best cook I know and my dad makes an amazing breakfast.

Of course when one visits home they must look at old family photos, it's the best!
We also where able to see some wonderful friends that I grew-up with (my friend Cody put this floor down in her home herself and her mom made the big kitty toy.)

Then it happened... it snowed so much we where stuck in Maine!!! Our flight always leaves really really early in the morning so we normally spend the night in Portland (one of my favorite small cities) and ended up having a small winter vacation in Portland Maine.

There was such a big snowstorm in Portland that we ended up being in the local newspaper... you can see a video of us here in the snow.

We made the most of our snowy adventure and actually found ourselves having fun in the cold (who would have thought!)

The photo above is what it looked like out the window of the airplane the morning we flew out of Maine... we almost didn't make it home.

New Year is my favorite holiday! I love staying up late with friends, toasting with champagne, making a list of resolutions, and the idea of a fresh start. Last year at this time I had my appendix removed and was really out of it on pain medicine and was so grateful to be alive that I never made any true new years resolutions. Have you already made a list? The first thing on my list is cooking, I'm going to learn how to cook. So, this morning I'm going to bake some banana bread, yummy (I hope) and try to come up with a few more new years resolutions for 2012.

Happy New Year my Friends!!!!
May 2012 be good to you all!

PS I'm in love with this Phylis Dillon song and keep playing it over and over.

The above photo was what the sky looked like on Christmas day, lovely!!!
Counting down the days till 2012 and wondering what to do to bring in the new year on St Thomas. Are you planning on going out to celebrate the New Year? For the last few years my good friends 'The Bobs' have come down to celebrate and I feel a bit lost without them this year and looking for fun suggestions.

Christmas is in two weeks, yikes, we haven't made any plans! What are you doing for Christmas? Last year we stayed home and had a dinner party with friends and sat around a bonfire under the stars on St John, it was a blast. For some reason this year I haven't had much of the 'good old Christmas spirit,' maybe just too busy with work. We did get a little Norfolk Pine Tree to decorate with lights for the house that puts a smile on my face. I'm thinking that next year I will need to find my warm clothing and head up north to spend the holidays with my family; it's been too long since I've had a big family Christmas.
Don't you just love Steve's photo of the Caribbean Santa? It's one of my favorite photos!!!

Holidays never feel the same in the US Virgin Islands, as they did when I lived in the states, which is neither a good thing nor a bad thing. For example, my Thanksgiving plans this year involve a party at Megan's Beach and I'm making a 'Man Pie,' it's just different here. I think my favorite Thanksgiving in the Caribbean was two years ago when we rented a catamaran and spent a week sailing around the BVI (photos HERE.) What are you doing for Thanksgiving this year?

What are you doing for Halloween this year?
Eric and I have been so involved in moving that we haven't made any plans or a costume. We might just end up watching a scary movie at home. Wish I could go back in time to this photo from a few years back with my friends.
Have fun!!!

He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven
By W. B. Yeats

Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silverlight,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Of course I like Valentines Day even if Hallmark has taken it over; I'm a romantic at heart, a believer in love, and I am in LOVE. I am also a typical girl that loves flowers and chocolates. I also just happen to be a wedding photographer. I spend my days working with people that are just overflowing with love, sharing one of the happiest day's of their lives with them, while they exchange wedding vows on the beach at sunset. It would be wrong for someone like me to not be a fan of Valentines Day.

Going to hang a few Christmas lights today in the yard and I'm debating on either the Palm Tree or the Flamboyant Tree, which just seems funny. Growing up in Maine, really makes celebrating Christmas in the Caribbean feel...well, different. I'm not saying that I miss the Christmas tree, believe it or not I could buy one here, and I definitely don't miss the snow, what I miss most is my family and everyone gathering around in the kitchen. Of course I miss all the yummy Christmas cookies that my mom bakes.

While reminiscing about pass Christmases I came across these photographs I made during a Holiday trip that I spent in Norway a few years back. Although I wasn't with my family, it was one of the warmest, and most loving memories that I have of the Christmas Holiday. I mean santa even showed up to give us all presents, it was truly magical.

This how it looked when I first arrived in Oslo and was on the train headed north to Rykkin.

We all went to church on Christmas and I couldn't understand a word of Norwegian, the singing was still beautiful.

The Vigeland Sculpture Park is in Oslo, it has 212 bronze and granite sculptures that cover over 80 acres. The sculptures where created by Gustav Vigeland and is a must see!

Santa is digging for my present, yay!!

This was the amazing, REALLY AMAZING, little community that I stayed in in Rykkin, Norway.
Thank you to the Gustavsen family for having me and making these memories possible.
XOXO
