Wild Horses.

On Vieques horses run free and are wild - makes me think of the Wild West. Most of the horses where really shy about having their photo taken and the ones that weren't shy scared me. I'm not sure what it is about horses, I love them and want to get close but I find them unpredictable and horses are smart they sense this and want nothing to do with me.

Well, this cat has it's own condo on St Thomas located on Mt Top (yes, it has an ocean view with a breeze.) I think this cat is in heaven really, it never even looked at us!!! I'm hoping my cat's never see this photo...

Flying a Kite!

I have a terrible memory for random details. The two people that I adore the most have an amazing memory for random details, which I admire. One of those random details happens to be a kite that my mother gave to Eric on his birthday.

Really it's Friday Already!

I can't believe that this is how I started my week, sitting on the beach sipping a beer. Shouldn't I be energized? I'm exhausted.
Do you have weekend plans? I'm working, can't complain cause I'll be working on the beach.
I'm hoping to find sometime this weekend to create a blog entry about all the wild horses I photographed on Vieques and the amazing places that we ate at while on our mini vacation.

St Thomas and St John UnPlugged

Can you imagine a hot summer day without a fan or air-conditioning? How about being on a tropical island with mosquitoes and no fan? Can you imagine running a business without internet and with the power turning off for 4 to 6 hours of the day?

Lucky Me.

I just received a box in the mail that was full of things from Washington State from my good friend Sarah (Bob). Completely unexpected, it’s not my birthday, and so much fun!!! Almost everything inside had been made by someone in Washington, made me wonder what each state would look like in a care-package?

Vieques Vacation Accommodations

While we where visiting Vieques we stayed at the Malecón House in Esperanza. I cannot say enough good things about our stay at the Malecón House; we will defiantly be staying there when we return to Vieques.

The Malecón House is a 10 bedroom inn, own and operated by Robin and Marsha Shepherd, they where extremely helpful with our stay and happy to provide recommendations of the best the island has to offer. They served fresh baked muffins/scones, fresh fruit, and coffee every morning to get us started for our day. The rooms where immaculately clean, included fresh beach towels everyday, comfortable, quiet, with a fabulous hot shower, and lovely air-conditioning. The grounds of the inn where perfect, beautifully landscaped, provided parking for our jeep rental, and the best part was the pool. Originally we didn’t think we would use the pool because we planned on going to the beach, but we found ourselves relaxing poolside everyday. The Malecón House is located right in town making it easy to walk around Esperanza as well as to the beach. I even purchased a couple organic cotton dresses from the boutique that are amazing.

We give the Malecón House 5 stars and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Vieques. See what others are saying on TripAdvisor.

Flying to Vieques

Vieques is pronounced “bjekes” and located 8 miles east of Puerto Rico. It is known internationally for being a bombing range and testing ground for the US Navy until the people of Vieques said enough is enough and effectively protested the US Navy off the island in 2003. It is also known to have some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean and has the world’s largest and brightest Bioluminescent Bay.

We had an amazing time on Vieques and made a lot of photographs during my visit that I will post over the next week or so.

Let’s start at the beginning of our trip to Vieques with getting there. We flew from St Thomas via Seaborne Airlines on a 17-passenger airplane (see photos above.) The flight was surprisingly smooth and everything was on time. There are a handful of other airlines that also fly into Vieques and flying is your best bet with getting to the island. There is also a very inexpensive (inexpensive as in less then $5) ferry from Puerto Rico, but everyone says that it is unreliable due to not running regularly because it fails to pass inspection.

Once you’re on Vieques hop on a públicos (public cab) located right outside the airport, make sure to negotiate the fare before driving off to your hotel or car rental. We had 4 people in our públicos and it was $5 a person. We found that most people spoke English and Spanish.

Mini Vacation!

Today is my first day back from my mini vacation on Vieques.
I had such an amazing time, feel completely relaxed, and ready to get back to work.
So, get ready to see lot's of tropical photos, travel tips, my favorite places to eat, and what we found on Vieques this weekend here on Sage Island.

Have an Adventures Weekend

My friends by the time you're reading this we'll have started our mini vaca on Vieques, yay!!!

We have a long weekend planned of relaxing on a different tropical island, beach hopping, bioluminescent swimming, drinking margaritas, taking photos of wild horses, and some good old fashion exploring something new. We're so very excited to do something different and relax a little. Hope everyone has a great weekend too, looking forward to sharing our adventure next week.
